ABOUT HERBAL MEDICINE

Herbal Medicine is the therapeutic use of the medicinal qualities of plants or plant extracts to treat various health conditions. Herbal medicine has a long history of traditional uses across different cultures around the world. The thread that runs through all these different traditions is the focus on supporting the body to return to a state of wellness, as opposed to simply treating the symptoms of the illness in the way that allopathic (modern western) medicine often does.

"I firmly believe in working from the root cause of imbalances and illness, and

use plant medicine to support health, wellness and healing."

Herbal medicine can be used to treat a wide range of health conditions. These include: anxiety; insomnia; chronic stress; fatigue; menstrual issues; menopause; headaches/migraine; digestive problems; joint conditions such as osteoarthritis; lung conditions such as asthma; cardiovascular issues such as high blood pressure; elevated cholesterol; skin conditions such as eczema; urinary tract infections; and many more.

Qualified medical herbalists are licensed to source and dispense the highest quality and strength of herbs, some of which are only available by prescription from a medical herbalist. I am trained in herb-drug interactions and chose herbs in conjunction with other medication, supplements and your personal preferences.

Herbal medicine can take various forms, including:

  • Herbal teas: Infusions or decoctions made by steeping plant materials in hot water.

  • Tinctures: Liquid extracts obtained by soaking herbs in alcohol.

  • Capsules or tablets: Powdered whole herbs or concentrated herbal extracts, often used for convenience.

  • Topical applications: Herbal ointments, creams, or balms applied to the skin for localised effects.

  • Powders: Ground plant material used in various ways, such as mixing with water or food.
